The community-college cost is this site's own published in-state tuition figure for the college you select. The four-year-university cost uses the College Board's national average published in-state tuition and fees at public four-year institutions for 2025–26 ($11,950/year, Trends in College Pricing and Student Aid 2025) — the same figure applies to both paths' junior/senior years, so the comparison isolates the effect of where you spend the first two years. Your actual state's public university tuition may run higher or lower than the national average; use this as a planning estimate, not a quote, and confirm exact numbers with each institution's financial aid office.
